The Cube Designers Challenge.

Last month, Rodin4D launched his first O&P design contest on social networks. The goal was to design an esthetic, futuristic, and innovative orthopedic device directly from Cube, our CAD/CAM software. During 3 weeks, our community shared their designs in order to get the chance to win one year of Cube in full version for free!

The Winner.

Elect the winner was not something so easy. the high quality of designs shared pushed us to overtake the 3 characteristics we were looking for at the beginning. The Kerkoc team showed us an beautiful example of what can be realized through Cube.

 Feedback.

“Cutting in 3D makes easier to imagine how a orthotic is going to look like. I love the tool called Tag in Cube, it has never been so easy to make templates on a 3D-model." - The Kerkoc GmbH team

How did they make it?

49 hours were needed to realized this device: 3 hours of brainstorming, finding inspiration, and Google researches; 24 hours of sketches and drafts, and digital tracing; ending with Cube modifications and modeling & a few minutes in Meshmixer coloring.

Inspiration.

The Kerkoc team took inspiration from the deep blue ocean. The top part of the device was modeled after the elegant shape and fluid movements of sting ray. The blue lines flowing through the legs would come to represent the water that supports life like the legs who supports the foundation of the wearer.

Start to design on Cube.
Rodin has launched the free Cube demo version to make possible for all CPOs to start designing. Access to more than 150 functionalities, advices from CAD/CAM experts and the online help. We look forward to seeing you in the Rodin4D community.

Cube Tips.

Curve, Cutting, Ball, and Smoothing are the tools most used. Cutting in 3D makes easier to imagine how a orthotic is going to look like. I love the tool called Tag, it has never been so easier to make templates on a 3D-model." — Kerkoc GmbH.
